The Friends of God Community
Are you hungry for more of God?
The Friends of God Community at GPC is a band of believers who desire a deeper relationship with God in their lives. We have committed to four things:
• Seek God daily in prayer
• Finance God’s dreams
• Regularly attend church
• Live a God-honoring life
Inspired by Cornelius in the Bible, we took our lesson from his life as the basis for this community. In the Book of Acts, chapter 10, Cornelius (a God-fearing man, but a non-Christian) was so passionate for God that God sent an angel from Heaven to visit him, which literally opened up the entire world to the gospel!
What was Cornelius doing? It says he: feared God, prayed constantly and gave to the poor. Now that’s pretty simple, isn’t it? Yet, it moved heaven and earth! The Bible says by doing these things his, “prayers and alms giving had come up as a memorial before God.”! (Acts 10:4) Wow, did he get God’s attention!
Cornelius was so excited about God that when the Angel said Peter was coming to share the gospel with him, Cornelius gathered his entire family, all his friends, and then the Spirit fell!
At the Gathering Place Church, God has called us to follow Cornelius’ example. We have found that by seeking God in prayer, giving to his work, inviting people to his house for worship and walking in the fear of God, not only are we truly becoming God’s friends, we are experiencing a move of God!
There are tremendous promises for those who pursue God:
“Draw near to God and he will draw near to you.” James 4:8
“God-friendship is for God-worshipers; they are the ones he confides in.” Psalm 25:14
Jesus said it this way:“You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.” John 15:14, 15.
Friendship with God is our highest destiny. We hope you will pursue this call with us and join us as we seek God in a deeper way. If you are interested in becoming a member of this community, simply click on the Join The Friends of God button, and start the journey!
If you would like to join us, our commitments are made in six month blocks. Because this is a community, and we are doing this together, my commitment to you is to send regular weekly encouragement by email, from my desk to yours, as we pursue God together.
The Friends of God,
John
