I don’t know a single person who does not need the supernatural dimension of God in their life. In fact, that’s why the Holy Spirit, through Paul, the Apostle, wrote three times in 1 Corinthians 12 and 14 to “earnestly desire” the spiritual gifts. The words, “earnestly desire” mean, “to gasp, pant, pant after, long for, breathe heavily”. This doesn’t sound like a passive posture, does it? It seems that God wants his kingdom to be sought after. That he wants us to be a passionate people pursuing an all powerful God. And why does he want us to desire the supernatural? Because it is what the world needs. When his church operates in the same power Jesus did when he was in the earth, we can then offer the same solutions Jesus did to the world’s needs.
When the church is left with the gift of teaching only, it is a weak church. This is why Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 2:1-5, “When I came to you, brothers, I did not come with eloquence or superior wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God. For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. I came to you in weakness and fear, and with much trembling. My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not rest on men’s wisdom, but on God’s power.”
It is the supernatural dimension of God’s kingdom that moves mountains, displaces demonic forces, brings healing and deliverance where human potential can’t, and enables us to do what the early church did, which is to “turn the world upside down”. (Acts 17:6)
