The Power of Love: God’s Love Part 2

Gatheringplace   -

God’s love is unique to human love. It is a supernatural love. And He pours this love into your heart when you give your life to His Son so that you can personally know and show God’s love.

Over the next three days we will explore three attributes of this love. Here is the first one:

God’s Love is Humble.

This is staggering to me, as it should be for all of us. God…is…humble. God is the richest, wisest, strongest, most powerful, all knowing, ever-present, supreme Being of the universe. He even has the most followers. And yet He is not arrogant, prideful, haughty, nor does He act superior – unless He has to, and that will always be for the benefit of others in some way.

Jesus said:

“Accept my teachings and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble in spirit, and you will find rest for your lives.” Matthew 11:29 NCV

I think God calls us to be humble, not just because it makes relationships work, but so that we will be like Him.

Here are some attributes of humility:

  • Authentic – an honest assessment of one’s present condition. Nobody to impress, nothing to prove
  • Not defensive – Jesus was not defensive. He was secure in His Father’s love.
  • Teachable – Nobody, except God, knows it all. Humility listens (that doesn’t mean agrees)
  • Confident – humble confidence. I know who I am and what I’m capable of, but I know God gave it all to me
  • Empowers others – rejoices with those who rejoice and helps them succeed

There is another thing about humility that is vital for you to know:

Humility blocks hell’s flow and opens heaven’s flow whereas pride blocks heaven’s flow and opens hell’s flow.

“For God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” James 4:6b NLT

God wants you to be humble so you will be like Him, and so He can abundantly bless you. The Bible says there are two ways you can experience humility:

  • You can humble yourself, or
  • You can be humbled by God

I encourage you to choose door number one! God loves you too much to allow you to go on in pride. The Bible says that if we would humble ourselves, we would not be humbled. Choose humility.
